SCHOLARSHIP ENDOWMENT AT QUINCY VALLEY SCHOOL

In the fall of 2007, Quincy Valley School opened its doors with seven students and a desire to provide the best education possible in a structured and supportive environment that encourages student development. These children were encouraged to see themselves as part of a community and they spent time visiting farms, businesses, hospitals and residents throughout the surrounding area. Two years later, the school began offering scholarships to help the parents of our students pay tuition. These scholarships were funded with donations from individuals who wanted to help children get the best education possible. In addition, the donors were able to name their scholarships and endowments and provide a brief biography of the person or persons they wished to honor. In so doing, students, parents and the community at large are made aware of the enduring nature of relationships and family and friendships can be remembered and celebrated.

HOW SCHOLARSHIPS WORK

The use of scholarships at Quincy Valley School should enhance the learning experience of all students by allowing qualified and motivated individuals from a multitude of backgrounds the opportunity to attend our school. Recipients will be selected based on a variety of criteria to allow both new and existing students to benefit from this program. Retaining currently enrolled students who have a compelling economic need or who have distinguished themselves academically or otherwise will be a priority. Encouraging new students to attend is also very important because it helps to increase student numbers per classroom up to economically sustainable levels. The criteria for each scholarship are determined by the donor and a scoring system is established to allow the Scholarship Committee to properly assess and score each application. Under no circumstances will the Quincy Valley School Scholarship Committee accept any scholarship criteria that violate and local, state or federal laws concerning all forms of discrimination in compliance with the Quincy Valley School non-discrimination policy statement.

SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA AND SCORING

There are a number of different scholarships that have already been created. In general, to be eligible, student applicants must be attending school full time. Each of these scholarships has a different set of criteria and scoring system. The recipients will be selected for these grants based on their ranking for each possible scholarship, the number of scholarships available and the amount of scholarship money available. The Quincy Valley School scholarship committee will be the decision makers for what scholarships each student is qualified for, the scores for each applicant by scholarship type, the rankings, and what scholarship (if any) might be awarded. The scholarship committee will make sure that all applicable state and federal laws are followed in the awarding of any grants to students.

SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION PROCESS

Only one application per student is necessary. Students will be considered for every scholarship that they are qualified to apply for. The scholarship application has five parts (designated A thru E). If applicants do not wish to supply any financial information, they may still apply for a scholarship by filling out sections A, B and E. If applicants wish to have their scholarship requests considered based on financial need, they must fill out all five sections and supply the scholarship committee with any requested supporting documentation. All scholarship applications must be completed and returned to Quincy Valley School in July. Scholarship award notifications will be made no later than August. Parents of students chosen for scholarships must read and sign the "Scholarship Acceptance and Release" form that allows the school to publicize the scholarship program and the individuals for whom each scholarship is named.

CREATING A SCHOLARSHIP

Creating a scholarship can be lasting gift to the students who receive them. The importance of a quality education is usually one of the reasons that donors choose to give to this cause. Quincy Valley School's pursuit of educational excellence is a founding principle. The dedicated staff at the school wants to help children to grow as both students and members of a community. In our short time in existence, it is clear that the school is achieving the goals set out for it when it was founded. Anyone interested in creating a scholarship or donating to our general scholarship fund may do so by contacting us at Quincy Valley School, 1804 SW 13th Ave., Quincy, WA 98848 or by calling the school at (509) 797-5301.
